This series is the beginning of the entire Love Live! franchise that introduced us to the first idol group, μ’s (Muse). The story centers on nine Otonokizaka High School students who work together to save their school from closure by forming a school idol group and entering the Love Live! competition. The first two seasons depict their struggles from the early stages to making it to the top of their careers as school idols. The series also has a movie called Love Live! The School Idol Movie which follows the adventures of the original group.
2. ‘Love Live! Sunshine!!’ (2016-2017) + ‘Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie: Over the Rainbow’ (2019) + ‘Yohane the Parhelion: Sunshine in the Mirror’ (2023)
This series is the first spin off that introduces a new idol group called Aqours, consisting of nine students from Uranohoshi High School in a small seaside village. Inspired by the success of μ’s, they form an idol group in hopes of following in their seniors’ footsteps and saving their school from closure. Just like its predecessor, the story ends with their participation in the Love Live! competition. There are also two movies, the first of which is titled ‘Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie: Over the Rainbow’ and the second ‘Yohane the Parhelion: Sunshine in the Mirror’ which has nothing to do with the original anime, but reimagines the characters of Shunshine set in a fantasy world.
3. ‘Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club’ (2020-2022) + ‘Nijiyon Animation’ (2023-2-2024 + Movie “Love Live! Nijigasaki Gakuen School Idol Doukoukai Kanketsu-hen (2024-2025)
This series introduces a new generation of idols at Nijigasaki High School. Unlike the previous two series, this idol club consists of various solo idols who have their own dreams and support each other to achieve their goals. The story focuses more on each member’s personal journey and the club dynamics are looser than the previous groups. Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club also released a movie which is the finale of the Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club anime titled “Love Live! Nijigasaki Gakuen School Idol Doukoukai Kanketsu-hen”.
6. Love Live! Superstar!! (2021 – 2024)
Love Live! Superstar!! tells the story of Kanon Shibuya and four of her classmates who form an idol group called Liella! at Yuigaoka High School, a newly opened school in Tokyo. With only five members at the beginning of the story, the series features more focused characters and the unique challenges they face on their way to becoming school idols.
5. Love Live! Hasunosora Jogakuin School Idol Club (2026)
Love Live: Hasunosora Girls’ High School Idol Club is based on a visual novel and manga that tells the story of life at the Hasunosora Private Girls’ Academy located in a remote location in Konazawa. The school will see nine students who form the school idol. And the series is getting a 3D anime movie adaptation where the story will be different from before and completely new.
